It seems like an oxymoron, using ho-hum in the same sentence as the word marathon.  Truly, it is a feat to run 26.2 continuous miles (especially coming off a wretched ankle sprain that kept me off my feet for 2 weeks of key training time)...but when you run enough of the same distance races, they start to, well, blur together.

Over the past year I have had the privilege to give readers my perspective on running and how it has changed my life. When I played football I thought running was the enemy and viewed running as a punishment coaches made players endure if we showed a lack of focus or discipline. Now I embrace running in my life as an ally.

I've been working my butt off the past two years to run the Boston Marathon.  I qualified in 2011, but had to wait over a year to be able to run in it.  This past Monday (04/16/12) was the big day!

Which is an ironic title considering the city came out and did a beautiful paving job on the worst part of my previously pothole-filled neighborhood road yesterday...it's phenomenal now, really.  Anyway...that was a side note to explain the purpose of this post, which is two-fold:

It’s amazing to recall the various memorable conversations that have started between strangers and me, from plane rides to grocery store lines to work meetings (yeah, I talk.  A lot.  To anyone.  And everyone.).  Most are about where I’m from or what I do, but the ones that spark the most fire are when I meet another runner.  And every time I leave that conversation I think to myself “runners are amazing people!”  Here’s a breakdown of why:
